| The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Slovak Republic.
The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MZVEZ) of the Slovak Republic, at the instruction of the head of the ministry Juraj Blanár (Smer-SD), summoned the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Slovak Republic Jules Gerzon on Monday, so that after the official appointment of the new minority Dutch government, he could express a protest against the part of its coalition agreement that describes Slovakia as a country that is allegedly "actively undermining Europe". Slovakia perceives this designation as unacceptable interference in the affairs of the Slovak Republic and strongly opposes it. TASR was informed about this by the communications department of the ministry.
"Even before the appointment of the new minority government in the Netherlands, Slovak diplomacy transparently communicated its reservations to Dutch partners through standard diplomatic channels, along with a call for an open dialogue on these claims. Unfortunately, without an adequate response from the Dutch side, which left the false statement in question in the coalition agreement," the ministry clarified.
The ministry stressed that Slovakia values good relations with the Netherlands. However, according to it, these must be based on mutual respect, understanding and equal partnership, not guardianship. "Every member state of the European Union has an equal right to defend its national interests, which cannot be denied by threats of taking away the right to vote by another member state, as stated in the coalition agreement of the new minority Dutch government. We fundamentally object to this and consider the preservation of the right of veto in areas where it is still valid to be crucial for the future of the EU as a group of states where the great powers do not decide, but each - even the smallest - country has its own sovereign vote," the MFA noted.
It added that it will continue to communicate sovereign positions in the EU in the interests of its development. "And we are ready to conduct a substantive dialogue with the Netherlands as well," the ministry added.
